This case study demonstrates how SEMPHOS revolutionized interactive quiz experiences by developing wireless buzzer systems, enabling seamless and engaging participation in real-time competitions.

Challenge

The client required a wireless quiz system that would replace traditional wired buzzer systems used in Bible quizzes. The existing systems were cumbersome, with complex initial setups and restrictive wiring that impeded flexibility and ease of use. CS Design sought a modern, wireless solution that would maintain reliability, offer user-friendly operation, and support seamless connectivity with existing PC software.

Solution

Semphos Ltd. developed a state-of-the-art wireless quiz system using ESP32-S3 for the main hub and ESP32-C3 for the quizzer and quiz master nodes. The solution featured:

  • Custom Firmware Development: Designed firmware using ESP-IDF v5.2 and the ESP-NOW protocol for efficient, low-latency communication between devices.
  • Three Node Types:
  • Hub (ESP32-S3 based): Acted as the main controller, interfacing with a PC-based software developed in Java by another company through a HID USB connection. The hub collected and processed signals from up to 6 quizzer nodes and a quiz master node, ensuring synchronized, real-time data transfer.
  • Quizzer Nodes (ESP32-C3 based): Battery-powered and optimized to last up to 5 days on a single charge. These nodes communicated responses and battery status to the hub.
  • Quiz Master Node (ESP32-C3 based): Functioned similarly to the quizzer nodes but included features for managing and overseeing the quiz process.
  • Real-Time Communication: Implemented secure, real-time messaging between nodes for immediate response tracking and battery status updates.
  • Enhanced User Experience: Eliminated the hassle of wires and extensive setup times, allowing for quick deployment and increased mobility in quiz venues.
  • Outcome

    The wireless quiz system developed by Semphos was an outstanding success. It provided CS Design with a modern, efficient, and professional solution that addressed all the limitations of wired systems. The newly implemented wireless system streamlined setup processes, enhanced mobility, and offered reliable performance, making quiz events more interactive and engaging. The battery-powered nodes ensured continuous operation for up to 5 days, catering to multi-day events without frequent recharges.
